So, who had a good day at the office today? Well, it was rookie burner Torrey Smith. The very first 3 receptions of his career went for touchdowns. He racked up 152 yards, so look for him to climb up the boards! Torrey runs a 4.43 in the 40.
Some rumors indicate the Patriots may be moving up (possibly with Jerry Jone’s #9 Pick) to get either Cameron Jordan DE or Mark Ingram. Mark is a shift and skilled runner who can give them a 25+ carry runner. Right now, Danny Woodhead is more of a scatback better utilized on 3rd Down. Mark Ingram’s 40 Time is 4.62 at the NFL Combine. However, at his Pro Day, his time improved to (depending on the stopwatch) was between 4.47-4.53. Ingram is similar in running style and speed with Emmitt Smith.
The NFL 2011 Draft is finally here and Cam Newton is expected to go #1 overall to the Carolina Panthers. They desperately need to re-energize their fan base and sell tickets. Cam Newton brings the charisma, swagger, and athletic ability to revitalize that franchise. Cam Newton’s 40 Time is 4.59, which is remarkable when you factor in his huge size and excellent agility.

Espn the Magazine did an interesting piece on Kemar Scarlett 40 Yard Dash Time, Place Kicker, Field Goal Kicker, a self-taught place kicker from Morgan State. Apparently, Kemar learned how to kick by watching Youtube videos. His career high is a 55 yarder. Most collegiate kickers have extremely specialized training to which Kemar could not utilize. Therefore, NFL Scouts may see a lot of upside for Kemar. Perhaps the Dallas Cowboys might be interested?
The fastest 40 Time taken in the 2011 NFL Combine was none other than cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke. With a 4.28 40, you can expect his draft stock to fly sky high. He has good height at 6’1″, but his overall size 176 could be a problem if you expect him to make tackles. He is not a very aggressive guy, and may need some coaching up. Another guy who boosted his draft stock is Edmond Gates. Gates posted one of the best 40 times at the NFL Combine. His 4.37 time in the 40 is currently the second best time posted thus far. He also has decent size at 6 foot/192 as well.
Coming out of nowhere like a bat out of hell was Mario Fannin who cashed in his chips at the NFL Combine today. Fannin posted a 4.38 in the 40 Yard Dash. Running at 231 pounds, his Speed Score is 125.5 which would be tops in the NFL today. Currently, Brandon Jacobs has the highest Speed Score at about 123. Fannin also showed his explosiveness with a 37.5″ in the Vertical Leap as well.
Julio Jones may have cemented his 7 figure payday today at the NFL Combine. Jones ran a 4.39 in the 40 Yard Dash. Even more amazing is his size: Height: 6’3″
